girlfriends

Shallom, k.k., Arianna

so, my best girlfriend is leaving today for several months. Let me preface this with a simple statement on girls in general: I really don't like them: they gossip a lot, are mean, and talk about shit I don't really care about...

And then my girl Shallom walked into my world. We met at an audition in Jan... the very same audition where I met another significant person in my world. Shallom and I didn't keep in touch after the audition. However, she moved here in early September. Since then, we've been inseparable.

I refuse to dwell on sad moments - it's a dangerous place for me to go; however - this day is tough. It just is... I've had a week of bliss on several levels. As of today, I need to create it.

shit.

And I can't sleep.

The pic below is my girl at 1.5 years old... she was bitter and pissed after her first swim in the ocean w/ mom (It was COLD). She literally turned her back and walked away from me.

Poetry on a bar-nap: The Lost Poems

OOPS! I never posted these... What was I thinking? Jazzie, these are for you! As for the pics... this is how poetry on a bar-nap goes down. With Style. Photos from Tom-Tom, The Diner, & Tryst... and I don't even hang out in Adam's Morgan!

TOPIC: Worm-Holes

Wormholes-
a portal to the unknown
a portal to another dimension
another planet
another life
poetry - a portal to another
state of mind
I write, and write, and
my mind wheels, whirls,
careens, jumps through
space and time
stars, planets flash by
faster than sound
faster than light
but I'm standing still
- Shallom

lost on this path,
this journey to the unknown
expecting the unexpected, and yet
not expecting at all
cuz you, I'm ready for
what's coming my way
giving and learning everyday
wondering if its worth
all the heart ache and pain
tryin to determine if my
struggle has been in vain
if love is worth fighting for
if pain will cease to stain
all the broken promises
tossed and turned and yet I stay
falling, crawling, fighting
in this wormhole
ever changing, rearranging
in this wormhole
this wormhole
my wormhole
my mind, my thoughts,
my life
- Jasmine

He said yes.
Yes, there is more.
More than what you first
perceive.
Stay longer.
Visit often.
Listen.
Shhh.
Now, you may learn.

Poetry on a bar-nap: Tryst, Dec 10

Shallom & I went for some much-needed adult relaxation. Of course, poetry on a bar-nap became the main event.... our friend Don (), a fabulous photographer joined in the effort. No pics yet, I'll upload those another time!

TOPIC: The Truth Fairy

The Truth Fairy loosens my tongue
My lips
My hips
And I admit things better left
Unsaid -
Suggest things that nice girls
Just don't do
Even before the words escape
My eyes betray me
- Shallom

The Truth Fairy
What a crock of shit
Seriously
Truth is in the eyes of the beholder
Or, the oppressor
Tyrant
Winner of the war
There's His side
Her side
And, the truth
But who gets to hear it?
Can you feel her wings
Beating in your ears?
- k.k.

I love children.
That's a lie.
I love children in the way
that I love most other people:
Taken as individuals.
The truth is,
I like the more adult aspects of children.
The ones that carry on adult conversation.
- Don

TOPIC: Wishes

If ifs and buts were
Wishes and nuts,
Then we'd all have
A Merry Christmas.
- Don

Wishes, like tear drops in a bucket...
Useless to quench this thirst.
Dreaming by the light of realism,
I despair.
Find me in darkness,
And rejoice;
I am your dream!
- k.k.

Do you wish you knew
What I was wishing for?
Maybe I'm wishing for you
And wishing you knew
Without having to tell you.
- Shallom

TOPIC: Sad Songs

"When every little bit of hope is gone,
A sad song says so much."
so says photographer Don
As song after sad song comes on
And I drink my wine
Having a mellow time
Writing poetry that rhymes
And then doesn't
But, that's okay
Because I've had a long day
- Shallom

Sad Songs...
Aren't they usually about
Trucks, dogs, beer & cryin'?
Oh, that's country.
This sad song is about
Loss on a global scale.
Can you really search my house?
Time to move -
Europe, perhaps.
The ultimate sad song
Is yet to be written,
But already foretold.
- k.k.

Sad Songs,
I only like sad songs
When I'm happy.
When I'm sad,
A sad song will kill me.
- Don

TOPIC: What's Next?

What's next?
What's new?
Have we fully realized the moment?
Have you?
Shall we?
Lets!
chaos. Discord. Rules.
Organization.
Theory.
Experience. Chance.
Circumstance.
Perspective.
ART.
FIND THE MOVEMENT!
Tomorrow.
- k.k.

What's next?
The next laugh, the next slow breath
Next sunrise, next glass of wine
Next thought leads to the one after
And the day after
And the next week, month, year
The next decision
Next change to your world, my world
Shifting plates
Earth & rock & sea
Skin & muscle & bone
Converge, diverge, & transform
Awake to the next dream on the horizon
- Shallom

TOPIC: Apples & Vodka

Red, Green, & One A Day
No doctor needed,
Just Rocks.
- Random Stranger

You like them apples?
Too much vodka and I get a little
Too honest...
- Shallom

Shots, Anyone?
Yes, please!
But, only if you smell like
Apples & Vodka
- k.k.

Apples & Pears
She looks in the mirror.
She wonders, she frets.
Doesn't she know?
All it takes is vodka?
- Don

Poetry on a bar-nap: Tryst Word Challenge

Shallom & I went to Tryst the other night for beer, tea & food. We'd had a very long week from extra rehearsals, my mother's venom toward my dearest guest, waiting to get paid far too long, and just being girls in the city. We were inspired to have a topic challenge... here's the result of our labor!

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Topic: People Watching

A room full of crowded
Strangers
And here we sit, on the inside
Looking out
Searching for hidden stories
In clouded, distracted faces

The hooded lady, alone on the couch,
Waiting for a lover that never comes
She leaves, to drink alone in her home,
spotless and sterile
The maid has left smudges on the
Mirror.
She will be fired in the morning.
- Shallom

All that's distracting.
I can't see his face.
What is he hiding beneath that hat?
Who gives a shit if you get
tea instead of a drink?
Not the woman you're speaking to -
She's not interested.
Faces reflected in the eerie
glow of a computer screen -
green, sickly and sad.
Socially anti-social
Bizarre breed, indeed.
- k.k.

Topic: Temptation

Bound by words
Spoken in love.
In Lust.
Just in.
To him, to you, to us,
to lust.
For love,
For need,
For curiosity.
For...
Well, sometimes I'm not sure.
The words are there.
Whether carefully crafted, or thrown away.
Either way,
They're powerful.
Watch me step,
Step up or down,
my timing's correct.
In this life of love,
with you.
-k.k. :)

Sly glances from across the room
Few and far between,
But potent as
Triple-strong drinks at the Mill
On a Saturday night
Slide by, brush the small of my
Back with electric fingertips
Wink
Blush
Are you ready for this?
No, I didn't think so...
-Shallom

Topic: Words

He needs time, he says with a smile
Time to think, to prepare...
Spontaneity overrated or merely
Uncultivated?
Waiting only increases my expectations
I don't need brilliance, just a smile
Words are words,
Whether carefully chosen or thrown away
And, napkins are disposable
Combined, they find a way to my heart
A window to my soul
But, only if you're willing to step up and take a chance and
Try..
-Shallom

Her writing,
not the words,
but the script itself says,
"Jaded, a tad by life... Perhaps."

Words can be deceiving,
but the action they are written with
speaks volumes.

Sloppy/slashing
tired strokes
Or, are they bubbly and
effervescent?

What is in-between the lines?
-k.k. :)

For Ed...

My mentor, teacher, choreographer, and (most of all) friend Ed Tyler ended his battle with bipolar on this day one year ago. I spent much of today insanely busy, perhaps in defense of the looming sadness in the back of my mind and in that spot between my shoulders.

Ed made me laugh deep and hard with wild abandon. I miss laughing with him. I miss his unique outlook on life. I miss his art. I miss his hugs. I miss so many moments that will not happen again. They have passed with him. I could not mourn with the group that met today to remember. I was in a rehearsal; and, somehow that was appropriate. Ed always pushed me to make art and to live my life within it. I have cried many times this day; something I rarely do. I feel a sense of acceptance I didn't allow last year. Now, I suppose I am able to truly and genuinely miss my dear friend.

Ed taught me so many things about art, dance, teaching, and myself. The lesson I carry with me daily is how it FELT to be loved unconditionally. He loved me unconditionally, and in the moment I was in; it's the best gift I've ever received. In a world where people have many expectations of who I was, am or will be; Ed loved me without reservation in every moment we shared. I do my absolute best to pass that gift forward. I can do so simply because I KNOW how wonderful it feels to be loved that way. Thank you, Ed Tyler.

Poetry on a Bar-Nap at Kramer's w/ Shallom:

Commitment to Breathing

Presenting itself in many forms,
The greatest temptation is silence.
To not say the words pouring out of my soul.
Not make the dance unfolding in my head.
Not teach what I know.
Not tell you how I feel.
Not hold you close to my soul the way I do.
Not even to breathe.
Exhale.

Halloween on a bar-nap...

Shallom, Meghan, Sam, Ilya, & k.k. wrote some words...

Two members of the waking dead,
Two pimped out 70's throw-backs,
And one pricey pussycat.

A night to remember...
All Hallow's Eve.

The freaks are out tonight!
- Shallom

THRILLER!!
Heeee-Heeee!

p.s. I'm supaFly's Ho & Kelly is her Pussy.
- Sam

Ode to Ho

Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia
Onomatopoeia...
Bitch, where's my money?
- Meghan

Une fée morte
sur les granits de metro
And I was hitchhiking...
(something in Russian that I don't know the keystrokes for....)
- Ilya

To be a cat...
Pussy, if you will.
Sexy, Powerful,
with fluid grace enhanced by
the mystery of feline ways.
Cross me at your peril.
Love me and perhaps...
I may scratch-
or, purr.
You must take the chance,
Pet me.
-k.k.

From Shallom...

I love this girl! We are performing a lot together and she is staying with me right now. I can't imagine not having Shallom in my world. She simply must stay! I mean, I understand needing to branch out and see the rest of the world, but damn! I adore this lady :)

In the pic: k.k., Shallom, & Jazzy (down front) at a gig last week.

Dinner Party

Glasses clinking as friendships are forged and renewed.
Bellies fill to the tune of political discourse and stories past.
How it was, should, and might be; our objects of hope.

Garlic butter scented memories of children giggling, romping, and cuddling up to new faces.
Bedtime stories, lavender bubbles, and mom's golden touch put little hands, feet, and hearts fast asleep.

A stolen Glance.

The press of a hand.
Invitations of something more intimate as the sun fades and the air cools.

A porch party quartet dances on, glasses clinking as friendships warm.

Red velvet cake melts on the tongue, sweetening the already rich and lush canvass of the day. The contours smooth and silky,
painted in my mind with shades of reds accented with hues of deep blue and green;
the colors of my happiness.

Written for Randy, not quite on his Birthday.
